Troubleshooting Freezes & High CPU Usage
Occasionally a bug in Path Finder will cause an unusual spike in processor usage, or the software may freeze completely. In order to help us troubleshoot these issues we ask that you follow a few simple steps.
First, update Path Finder to the current debug build. The debug build can be obtained by holding down the shift key while selecting the menu Path Finder > Check for Updates. Path Finder will automatically download and install the update.
As soon as Path Finder freezes, do the following:
- Open OS X's “Activity Monitor” Utility. It is located in Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor
- Choose Path Finder from the list of running processes
- Click the “Sample Process” button in Activity Monitor's toolbar
- Send the result of the sample to samplereport@cocoatech.com along with a detailed account of what you were doing when you noticed Path Finder misbehaving. Be sure to include any relevant information about your system, such as OS version and hardware configuration. If you were asked to take a sample on our support forum, please also include a link to the forum thread.
