Path Finder 3.2.2 released, Path Finder 4 news!
September 29, 2004Today we released Path Finder 3.2.2, which rectifies a conflict that Path Finder had with Allume's new Stuffit 9. For those of you who haven't installed Stuffit 9, what would happen is the new Stuffit 9 engine would cause a conflict with the Stuffit framework included with Path Finder 3. This would cause Path Finder to crash rather spectacularly on startup.
Path Finder 3.2.2 fixes that. Go and download it now.
Long-time viewers will note that this is the only change to this version, in stark contrast to our usual Herculean list of changes. What's up with that?
(We're secretly competing with the creators of GraphicConverter, a legendary shareware graphics application with equally prodigious changelogs. Just kidding.)
Well, the truth is that we've been extremely hard at work on the next major version of Path FInder. Yes, Path Finder 4 is coming! There are tons of new features, eagerly awaited improvements, and at least a few surprises here and there. Here's an incredibly tiny teaser:

We know, we know - "what the heck is that?!" We're just being shy, is all. Just give us some time to make ourselves look pretty...
Check back for more actual screenshots (and not the rather useless chestnut above) and other news as development marches on, and we get closer to release. We promise to have more juicy updates soon. As for the often asked "when?", we must reply in kind, "when it's ready". In true Apple fashion, however, we can promise you something "around the end of the fourth quarter". :)
I can tell you now that Path Finder 4 will be a paid upgrade. We are breaking down the house on this one and rolling in some rather large new features, and feel this will be very much worth an upgrade fee. As before when we charged for the Path Finder 3 ugprade, the price will be very reasonable; we hate it when software companies roll out tiny upgrades and charge you your first-born for it, too. We will also have a free upgrade path for customers who have purchased Path Finder recently within a certain time frame (to be announced).
So, if you purchase Path Finder 3 now, you will get the upgrade to Path Finder 4 absolutely free. That means there's no reason to hold off your purchase now, as you are covered for when the next version comes out.
For your reading pleasure, we will also be posting more often to both this news area, as well as the now combined Cocoatech Weblog, where Steve and I will pontificate endlessly on deep, important issues like, "the new iMac G5's video card: suck or no-suck?", and, "Should I eat a cheese sandwich today?". Thrilling!
Thanks to everyone for your continuing support, feature requests, bug reports, complaints, commendations, and everything else you do to encourage us to continue making and improving Path FInder! We couldn't do it without you.
