Path Finder profiled on MacBreak
January 5, 2007I just noticed that Path Finder was recently demoed on Leo Laporte’s MacBreak show by productivity maven Merlin Mann. Those of you who are obsessed with productivity and Getting Things Done undoubtedly know Merlin from his killer 43Folders.com web site.
Yes, the Woz is a Path Finder user!
Merlin has been a long-time Path Finder fan (as has Leo Laporte) and it rocks that they’ve put together this demo. Their comments about Steve “The Woz” Wozniak also being a fan of Path Finder are true — I think I almost wet my pants in a nerd worship-induced spasm of delight when I saw his order go by a while ago.
A quick correction and a clarification
One thing that I should correct that Merlin mentions in the demo is that Path Finder installs a crash reporter — we did for a short while when Path Finder 4.0 was first released but this was removed and we now have an integrated crash reporting system that doesn’t install any extra doodads.
Leo is absolutely correct when he mentions that Path Finder is “just an application” — it installs no Input Managers, no haxies, no kernel extensions, or any other system-altering items. It’s just a plain old bundle application like Safari or Mail or iTunes, so there’s no chance of it affecting system stability or the stability of other applications.
Stuffit Engine
That said, because Path Finder integrates the latest Stuffit Engine in order to provide its compression and expansion features there are known conflicts with older versions of Stuffit products. We recommend if you’re running Path Finder full-time that you should uninstall any previous versions of Stuffit Expander or Stuffit Deluxe to avoid any potential issues.
It looks like we have a lot of new customers discovering Path Finder for the first time thanks to numerous mentions on Merlin’s web site and Leo Laporte’s MacBreak, so hats off to them for sending us some video podcast loving.

Speaking a good old-fashioned lovefest I’d like to send all of our amazing customers best wishes for 2007 (henceforth known as “The Year of Bond, James Bond”) from myself, Steve, Miho, and Alexandra. You all helped make 2006 our best year ever and we look forward to working with you this year to make Path Finder even better. Thanks!
