Bluetooth Mighty Mouse sucks
March 31, 2007When I ordered my Mac Pro I paid extra to get the wireless keyboard and mouse, but now I'm regretting the decision.
I assumed Apple wouldn't sell these products if they worked as expected. Maybe I got a bad batch, but this mouse is absolute garbage.
Some days it works flawlessly. Other times it's super jumpy and hard to control. I don't know what it could be and I don't really care. I want my wires back! I had no problem with wires. The mouse and keyboard just sits on my desk and the wires never get in the way.
I also hate the fact that I have to replace or recharge the batteries every few weeks. I leave my mouse and keyboard always on. I got some rechargeable batteries (which were super expensive). The mouse always seems to complain of a low battery too quickly. I can take those AA batteries out and put them in a flashlight and it seems pretty bright and charged as far as I can tell.
I also am annoyed when it asks me to locate my mouse and keyboard after an OS install. I know it's not a big deal, but I just want it to work and not bother me.
This technology is not ready for prime time. Sorry Apple. Maybe the next generation will work as advertised. I need to stop by the Apple store and ask a genius what is going on.
While I'm on the subject of technology that sucks. Lots of new devices I own suck. I hate my cell phone. I rarely use my because the sound quality is unacceptable. I can barely hear what people are saying. A typical land line is so much clearer. Half the time I tell people just to call me back on my land line. I'm sick of saying "what?, what? Can you say that again...", it's extremely annoying. Also, if I have my cell phone within 10 feet of any speakers, I get random static, and buzzing from my speakers. I get a bunch of noise in my speakers right before the phone rings so I always know right before my phone rings. This must be a non-compliant device. It's causing way too much interference. Damn you to hell Sony Ericsson. This is the last device I ever buy from either of these companies.
I have no plans to buy an iPhone. I've got Cingular and they suck. I'll wait for the WiFi iPhone. It will probably suck too, but at least I'm won't be paying a monthly fee for lousy sounding calls.
I also am not a big fan of song quality of iTunes music. The quality is OK, but I still hear digital artifacts. A few songs I've purchased were "remastered" and they have obvious mistakes and odd sounds not in the original. I'm not an audio expert, but some songs just don't sound right. It seems that much of the new technology is better is many ways, but worse in other ways. It's annoying, but I guess that's the nature of progress. I own an iPod, but have used it 2 times in 3 years. When I first bought it, it would kernel panic my G5 every time I plugged it in, so it sat unused for the first year until finally Apple updated the OS and the problem went away. I still never use it.
Back to work, I feel better now...

I'll say you probably got a bad mouse. My BT mighty mouse works flawlessly. And I just changed my batteries for the first time since I bought it (3-4 months ago).
What a HORRIBLE LIFE !?
my ipod _never_ crashed my good'ol G5 mac
and the mighty mouse, yes, it's not perfect and it needs battery, but not so often and it's _always_ responding (not "jumpy" )
ho, and your phone ? drop it. fast. yes it can have interferences with speakers , it's the way electro-magnetic devices can reacts but :
drop your phone, or change country :) , it's not normal to have a bad sound quality
and your speakers ? drop it too ! you need more protected speakers.
well.. drop all and sell us a new path finder :)
goodbye.
That's funny, I get that static on my speakers too. I figured they were just cheap speakers though. I have a Docomo/Panasonic phone (I'm in Japan) and I have to say, sound quality is always an issue with it too.
The whole iTunes music thing is pretty lame. I'm with you on that one. I never buy songs online. I'd rather have the higher quality that comes from owning the CD. You can always up the bit rate if you aren't satisfied with the RIP. I'll buy online when the quality is CD or better. Hello Apple Lossless!
I've used my iPod shuffle every single day for the last two or so years. Pretty much since it was released, whenever that was. I have to commute though so having my music and some podcasts with me is awesome.
I TOTALLY agree with the MM comment. I have never owned a mac, but being in the creative field and getting more and more frustrated with my PC, I have been eyeing the Mac Pro for a few months. I just spent about $5k on one with the BT keyboard & MM, and this MM just plain ols SUX! It's jumpy as all hell and I've wanted to take it and throw it through a wall several times... (and I've only had this thing less than 2 weeks!)
My BT MM is causing me kernel panics everytime I reconnect it after connection has been lost. It works so on my nerves. Who cares about iPhone and iTunes, all rubbish. If they could for once make decent products like the oldtime powerbooks instead of this bunch of crap that is causing panics all the time. F*ck them all.
You must have gotten a bad mouse because I have had my mouse since Jan 07 and I have had no problems with it. I am still using the original batteries that came with the mouse. The only issue I have had is that the acceleration seems to get out of whack and the mouse moves slower across the screen. To fix that I just turn it off then on again and all is well. That happens maybe once every month. Get a replacement unit.

I’ve always preferred the Logitech wireless mouse range since they have internal batteries that recharge when you put them on their stands (the MX Revolution is my current favourite). They also feel more comfortable to me than the Apple mouse.
I do use an Apple Bluetooth keyboard which is OK, but I’d probably go for a wired one if I was buying again. It seems to always take an annoying few seconds before it lets me enter my password on startup.
I agree on iTunes music - I generally preferred the sound of LPs to digital music but, in the end, the convenience of iTunes and the iPod makes up for the lower sound quality. And you can’t get many LPs these days...
