Path Finder Quickies
May 17, 2007Did you know that...
... you can prevent your important files being accidentally changed or deleted by "locking" them? Select your file, go to Permissions tab of the Get Info window and check "Locked" - and voila! If you want to change or delete this file afterwards, just uncheck it again.(This feature will only work on HFS volumes).

... you can automatically resize the column to the width of the longest file name in Column View? Just double-click two bars located at the bottom of the column separators:

... you can print out your files in a nice list? Of course you can simply choose "Print" from File menu, but it will print the whole browser interface with it. There's a better way - go to File -> Reports -> Directory Listing. It will then generate a list of files in the currently selected directory in four different formats - with icons, without icons, full path, URL path - and open it up for you in the built-in text editor. (While you're at it, check out other reports, like "Man to PDF" that allows you to look at - and also print and search - that lengthy man page).

... you can batch rename files with an Automator workflow? Courtesy of Philippe Martin, developer and Apple Script guru, you can find complete instructions here.
